Quick answer

What is GEO for logistics?

Generative engine optimization (GEO), also called AI SEO or answer engine optimization (AEO), is the work that makes AI assistants mention and cite your company. For a logistics company it means that when a procurement manager asks ChatGPT for "a freight forwarder for China to Miami" or "a cold chain 3PL in Texas", your name, lanes and services are in the answer.

Assistants build answers from two places: what the model learned in training and what it retrieves live from search indexes like Bing and Google. GEO works on both: clear entities and third-party mentions for the first, answer-first pages that rank for the second.

Prompt strategy

The five prompt types that put logistics companies on an AI shortlist

Buyers ask assistants for a shortlist before they ask anyone for a quote. Each prompt type is answered from different sources, so each needs a different fix.

  1. 01

    Shortlist

Example prompts: "best freight forwarders for China to Miami", "top 3PLs in Dallas for Shopify brands"

Where it shows: ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Overviews

  2. 02

    Comparison

Example prompts: "freight broker vs asset-based carrier for reefer", "Flexport alternatives for mid-size importers"

Where it shows: ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot

Example prompts: "customs broker near the Port of Miami", "drayage company Savannah"

Case study

Results from logistics clients: Interworld Freight

Interworld Freight: from referrals to 60–80 inbound leads a day

Interworld Freight
60–80 inbound leads a day through the website
  • Miami, FL
  • International freight forwarder
  • Caribbean and Bahamas lanes
The challenge

A strong operation on Caribbean and Bahamas routes out of Miami, but a website with no organic traffic and no lead capture. New clients came through relationships, so growth had a ceiling.

The approach

A rebuilt, technically sound website; SEO aimed at shippers moving cargo to Caribbean destinations; and lead capture designed around how a freight buyer decides.

The outcome

60 to 80 inbound leads a day. The website is now Interworld's primary business development channel, running 24/7 without a sales team behind it.

  • 1Mmonthly visits at iContainers
  • +5,000qualified leads for clients
  • +60logistics companies
CargoTrans
"F5 rebuilt our website page by page, put a form on every service page so we know where each lead comes from, and they understand tariffs and trade compliance well enough to write about it."
Anthony DeFilippis, Co-CEO, CargoTrans Inc., New York

Unit of work Keyword and page Prompt and source Search Console and prompt data
Measured by Rankings, clicks, quote requests Mentions, citations, share of voice Pipeline in your CRM

FAQ

GEO for logistics FAQ

What is generative engine optimization (GEO)?

+

GEO is the practice of making AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Copilot, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews mention and cite your company. It combines clear entity data, answer-first content and third-party mentions, and it is measured by how often you are named on the prompts your buyers use.

What is the difference between GEO, AEO and AI SEO?

+

They describe the same work from different angles. AEO (answer engine optimization) focuses on being the direct answer, GEO on generative engines like ChatGPT, and AI SEO is the umbrella term buyers use. For a logistics company the deliverables are the same.

Can you guarantee that ChatGPT will recommend my company?

+

No, and nobody honest can. Assistants change their answers by prompt, user and day. What we can do is raise how often you are named and cited across a fixed set of buyer prompts, and show that number every month.

Do we need an llms.txt file?

+

It does no harm and costs little, but it is not what gets you cited. Google said in May 2026 that llms.txt is not used for AI Overviews, and most AI crawlers read your HTML directly. Entities, answer-first pages and third-party mentions matter far more.

Does GEO replace SEO?

+

No. Assistants retrieve from search indexes, so the pages that rank in Google and Bing are the pages AI quotes. GEO sits on top of logistics SEO and adds entities, citations and prompt tracking.

How do you measure AI visibility?

+

We run the same set of buyer prompts every month in ChatGPT, Copilot, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude and AI Overviews, and count mentions, citations and share of voice against your competitors, matched to your domain so a similar company name is not counted as you.
